Chris Benfield
Pastor
Biography
Pastor Chris was born in Taylorsville, North Carolina, in September 1971. He lived in the nearby town of Hiddenite and attended Hiddenite Elementary School and East Alexander Middle School. In May 1989, he graduated from Alexander Central High School.
Chris was saved as an eleven-year-old boy and baptized into Christian fellowship at Bethel Baptist Church in Taylorsville. In July 1995, he was ordained to serve as a deacon at Bethel and served until he was called to his first church. In December 2003, Chris announced his call into gospel ministry. He was ordained into the gospel ministry on July 24, 2005. He assumed his first pastorate at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Hiddenite, North Carolina in September 2005, and served there until June 2009. He was called to Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Airy, North Carolina in May 2010, and served there until March 2020. Pastor Chris was called to serve Shady Grove and began his pastorate here in April 2020.
Chris received a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the West Lenoir Baptist School of Ministry in 2007 and his Master of Divinity Degree in 2009 from West Lenoir. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary in 2012. He began graduate studies at Southeastern Theological Seminary in January 2020.
Chris and his wife Tanya have been married since 1990 and have two daughters, Makayla (Garrett) and Malinda (Elijah.) His hobbies include gardening, golf, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family.
